Construction of a new single span footbridge and associated lifts to provide improved access to the platforms for passengers with mobility issues using the station.

Works were undertaken to regrade the embankment on the West Coast Mainline (CGJ7). The project involved the filling of 2 large gullies to enable the regrade and included importing circa 20,000 tonnes of engineering fill.
Morgan Sindall
Story Contracting were tasked with the delivery of the track slab system which was part of the renewal of Queen Street Tunnel’s degraded 40-year-old slab track working for Morgan Sindall. The project, part of a larger scheme at Queen Street is part of the ongoing Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP).
Network Rail/Tarmac
Arcow Quarry was a £2.5 million scheme to once again connect Tarmac’s quarry near Horton-in-Ribblesdale with national rail network. Story Contracting provided the design and implementation of the track and civils works.
Cumbria County Council
During an 8 week period in early 2016, works were undertaken to provide a temporary replacement to Pooley Bridge. The stone masonry arch bridge, at the foot of Lake Ullswater, was washed away during Storm Desmond in December 2015.
Network Rail Infrastructure Projects (Civils)
Eden Viaduct, bridge WCML5, is a 7 span viaduct structure comprising of 5no stone piers with a concrete deck spanning approx 70m across the River Eden. Scour protection to the masonry and foundations was necessary to secure the future of the structure. This was a challenging project due to adverse weather conditions and essential environmental considerations due to working in the river.
Innovia Security Ltd and Bank of England
Story Contracting’s Construction division was contracted to develop a £11m opacification plant for Innovia Security in Wigton, Cumbria.
Network Rail
Scarborough Bridge was a twin span bridge reconstruction project, completed during a nine day blockade in February 2015. This was a highly sensitive project located over the River Ouse to the north of York Station just 40 metres from the end of Platform 4.
