The Scope

The project’s pace received a substantial boost by strategically adjusting the sequence of strengthening and painting works on the spans. This alteration involved completing the works on the end span just as the scaffold was built, rather than beginning with the interior spans. This allowed us to remove the scaffold from the end span whilst the interior spans were worked on, ultimately saving time. This deliberate sequencing contributed to the acceleration of the project timeline.

• Site establishment and set up, as well as the set up of the safe route to work.
• Vegetation management around the structure.
• Installation of bespoke temporary works systems, including all earth related works and scaffold around the structure, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
• Scour protection works implemented to safeguard structures from erosion and environmental factors ensuring long-term stability.
• Masonry repairs addressing structural concerns, to ensure longevity.
• Blasting and surface preparation for the main girders, so they were blasted in accordance with the S.A. 2.5 blasting and mechanical prep system.
• Steel repairs and strengthening works.
• Painting and coating of main girders.
• Scaffold removal, site demobilisation and reinstallation of the ground soil.

Delivering Success

• Early and continuous consultations with the landowners, environmental consultants and designers, ensuring good community relations, engineering innovation and eliminating environmental hazards.
• Our versatile management and adaptability to unexpected changes ensured the completion date remained unaffected.
• Implementation of a robust access plan at the work site, which mitigated hazards related to working at height.
• Construction review sessions were held regularly on site, which helped identify actionable and timely solutions to potential hold ups.
• The project team’s strategic scope and completion time optimisation plan ensured the project adhered to the programme and stayed within the budget.

The Story Way

Story collaborated closely with environmental consultants at an early stage which addressed and eliminated potential environmental concerns. This includes protective measures such as barrier placement around ancient woodland trees, demonstrating our commitment to environmental stewarding and protection. Consent restrictions were agreed, allowing the project to be completed smoothly within the permitted time window.
