Despite being blown off course by Storm Hannah, Story Contracting have successfully delivered the replacement of a railway bridge between Stoke-on-Trent and Derby, on behalf of Network Rail.

Sections of the existing and newly constructed railway bridge had to be lifted by crane, which can only safely operate when wind speeds are less than 18mph.

With gusts up to 50mph over the weekend, the team worked around the clock to ensure the bridge replacement was delivered successfully and safely.

Jonny Fearon, Contract Manager, said: “Safety is our number one priority, so we waited patiently for the bad weather to pass before lifting the new bridge deck into place.

“Working closely with our Plant team and our wider supply chain, we pulled together and demonstrated our commitment, by securing all resource at such late notice, mitigating against the adverse weather we faced from Storm Hannah.”
