Team Story inspire Scotland’s future Young Scientists and Engineers

More than 300 young people representing over 50 schools from all over Scotland and as far afield as Peebles and the Western Isles joined Story Contracting and a host of other leading employers at Glasgow Science Centre recently to take part in the Celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM).
The students were involved in a variety of challenges and competitions throughout the day including a three-minute, hands-on STEM challenge ran by Story Scotland’s James Bryden and David Kellighan.
The challenge, a task to build the tallest tower using marshmallows and toothpicks only, doubled up as an opportunity to provide an insight into the wide range of careers in the STEM industry. The winners of the STEM challenges were Bridge of Weir Primary in Renfrewshire and Monifieth High in Angus.
Tasha Wood Wakefield, Bid Manager, acted as a judge for other competitions held on the day.
She said: “We understand how important it is to inspire and enthuse young people about the exciting and rewarding opportunities STEM subjects can offer Scotland’s future workforce. It is always a highlight to meet enthusiastic primary and secondary pupils who may one day become involved in Story Contracting or the wider industry.”
