Major projects success for Story

November has been a successful month for Story Contracting with major milestones achieved on Midland Main Line Electrification and Hope Valley Railway Upgrade, on behalf of Network Rail.

Over a series of railway closures, the Story team alongside the supply chain safely achieved:

Midland Main Line:

• SPC3/03 Taylors Bridge – breakout and jacking of the existing overbridge structure to create the passive provision for electrification.
• SPC3/02 Bassetts Bridge – full demolition of the overbridge, ensuring that the line was fit for the passage of engineering trains within 10 hours.
• SPC3/28 Chaters Bridge – installed three con-arch units (one internal and two external units) along with two parapets. Also installed concrete arch main spans and new parapets to provide electrical clearance for trains passing below.
• SPC3/09 Wistow Road – installed all con-arch and parapet units, brickwork and applying polysulphide to the underside of the arches. Installed concrete arch main spans and new parapets, including brickwork and waterproofing, again  to provide electrical clearance for trains passing below.

Hope Valley Railway Upgrade, alongside joint venture partner VolkerRail:

• Underbridge MAS25 – landed and installed 50t U deck, utilising two Kirow 1200 rail cranes. This now facilitates the track being installed and achieving a key project milestone of completing the Bamford passing loop by December.
• Dore Station – extensive scaffolding installed to the newly constructed footbridge lift shafts to facilitate the brickwork, while ducting work was carried out to the existing platform.
