Story Contracting, on behalf of Network Rail, successfully demolished two bridges on the East Kilbride line over the weekend as part of a £140m improvement project.

OB44 Thornliebank – Works were undertaken during a 23-hour blockade to demolish the multi-interface bridge and remove 1600t of material.

OB32 Westerton Lane – Works were undertaken during a 72-hour blockade to demolish the 450t bridge and install pre-cast beams using a 300t crane.

Both new bridges will have enough space underneath to allow the installation of new overhead line equipment that will power electric trains on the route.

Story Track, Story Contracting’s specialist p-way team, also delivered UTX enabling works for the diversion of an existing SPEN overhead cable during the line closure.
